Students are required to wear a uniform to and from school each day. The Bishop Alexander Carter Catholic Secondary School uniform consists of:

-length of the kilt must not be altered

Oxford Shirt
(unisex)
-oxford dress shirt preferably from the supplier, otherwise it must be identical to that of the supplier -oxford shirt, white only un-crested top may be worn under any crested garment (worn tucked in pants or kilt)

French-Cut Blouse
(girls only)
-white only, crested, must be purchased from the supplier (available in long and short sleeves) -meant to be worn un-tucked (absolutely no dark underclothing – be sure to select a size that is appropriate, not tight)

Rugby Shirt
(unisex)
-white and navy, crested, must be purchased from the supplier -may be worn un-tucked if worn by itself

Golf Shirt
(unisex)
-white or navy only, crested, long or short sleeves -may be worn un-tucked if worn by itself



FOOTWEAR

Footwear can be either running shoes or dress shoes. The color of footwear is either black or white or a combination of white and black only. No other colors for the shoes or laces are acceptable. Shoes must be closed at the heel. Beach wear such as flip flops and sandals are not permitted for safety reasons. Shoes should have non-marking soles and low heels (heels are not to exceed 2 inches in height). If you are unsure as to whether or not you are purchasing an acceptable shoe you are better off to discuss your concerns with the Principal or Vice-Principal.


OVERALL REQUIREMENTS ON UNIFORM WEAR

These guidelines will help you prepare for September and will answer most questions people ask about the school uniform.

Navy shorts must be worn with appropriate socks and must be purchased from the supplier, which is R.J. McCarthy Ltd. situated on LaSalle Boulevard.

Navy pants must be purchased from the supplier, R.J. McCarthy Ltd. Oxford shirts must be white (preferably McCarthy). They may be long or short sleeved and if purchased locally, must be identical to those of the supplier. Oxford shirts are to be buttoned and worn tucked in at all times, even when worn with the shorts.

Dress or casual socks must be black, navy blue or white (no patterns, designs, stripes). Belts must be black leather/simulated leather (available at McCarthy’s) and worn properly (not overhanging).

The school tie must be worn only with the white oxford shirt and a school embroidered garment. The tie must be snug at the neck. Students are encouraged to wear ties often.

Kilts are to be worn with solid navy tights or navy knee socks.

The French-cut blouse is to be worn un-tucked if worn without an additional embroidered garment. A white undershirt must be worn underneath the school sweater. No spaghetti straps are permitted. The blouse must fit appropriately with buttons done up properly and respectfully.

T-shirts worn under shirts/blouses must be solid white or navy blue. Logos, printed material and/or other colours are not acceptable. Lacy undershirts of any colour are not permitted. .

Uniforms are to be worn coming to and from school each day.

The Physical Education uniform must be purchased from the supplier. (t-shirts and shorts/track pants). It is recommended that students purchase at least two t-shirts for hygienic reasons. Running shoes are required for physical education class.


NOT ACCEPTABLE

  1. Extremes in personal grooming are not acceptable, such as hair colour not considered “natural”, excessive make-up, large bulky jewelry, wallet chains, and body piercing including but not limited to nose, eyebrow and/or tongue rings/studs. Excessive ear piercing (more than 3 piercing in each ear lobe). Certain accessories may not be approved at the discretion of the principal.

  2. If alternate footwear is recommended for medical reasons, a doctor’s note must be provided to the Main Office.

  3. Pants that are purchased locally and are not the McCarthy style pant, ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE: this includes bell-bottom and leg hugger styles.

  4. Hats of any sort are not to be worn by students while in the building.
